We are situated in the historic village of Crayke, with breath-taking views over the vale of York on three sides, and a charming view up the hill to the medieval Church. Crayke is less than 25 minutes from York City Centre, and in the heart of Herriot Country. We are well placed for visits to the Jorvik Centre, Castle Howard, Beningbrough Hall, Helmsley Castle, Nunnington Hall, Byland Abbey and other stately homes and historic sites.
York - A19, through Easingwold Market place and straight up towards Crayke. Once in Crayke, take the first left up the hill and you will see the pub on the right.
Nearest airports are Teeside or Leeds. We are 90 minutes from Manchester. The nearest railway station is York.
Should you wish to visit York from the Durham Ox, we are very conveniently located for the Park and Ride. Head on the A19 towards York and park for free, completing your journey by bus.

Walks
"Nothing rounds off a Sunday stroll quite like a plate of Yorkshire beef with all the trimmings. With its prime spot between York and the North Yorkshire Moors, the AA's Pub of the Year in England, The Durham Ox, is just the place."
Many of our guests find the one minute walk from their cottage to the pub, perhaps twice a day, sufficient exercise for the duration of their stay!
However, we are surrounded by beautiful countryside to explore. There are a huge number of walks from gentle strolls to serious hiking. The Crayke Estate Walk takes approximately one hour and starts from The Durham Ox car park. A detailed map of this walk is available. Ordnance survey maps of the area are also available to borrow or for additional information visit:
